What this class signup asks, and why

Five questions to sign students up for a class or tutoring session, on a chalkboard-style theme. Students give their name and email, choose a subject and say where they are with it: just starting, keeping up or preparing for an exam. They then pick a session time. Anyone who chooses 'None of these work for me' is asked when would work instead, and nobody else sees that question. Those answers double as a timetable survey: if several people name the same evening, add a session. Edit the subjects and times each term.

1 question is conditional. It only appears when an earlier answer calls for it, so most people answer 5, not 6.

Ways to adapt it

Revision sessions

Change subjects to clubs, add a parent's name and a collection question.

Music lessons

List instruments instead of subjects, and add a question about grade or experience.

Best practices

How to get good answers from a class signup

  1. 1

    Ask when people could come

The answers to 'when would work?' are a free timetable survey. If several people name the same evening, add a session.

  2. 2

    Group by level

Put students preparing for an exam together. Their needs are different from those just starting.

  3. 3

    Change the times each term

Session times are ordinary options, so update them as the timetable changes instead of building a new form.

  4. 4

Pick a theme that suits the audience

The blackboard theme suits a school or tutor. Any of the other themes can be swapped in for a more grown-up class.

After you publish

Where the responses go next

  1. See which sessions fill

The answer breakdown counts sign-ups per slot and per subject.

  2. Find new session times

Search the responses for 'None of these work' to read the times people suggested.

  3. Share with other tutors

On Pro, send each sign-up to a shared Google Sheet so every tutor sees their list.
