Inside the template

What this assignment submission asks, and why

Students upload their work, choose which assignment it is from a list and add an optional word count. They then say whether it's on time. Only late submissions open a box asking what happened, so the reason arrives with the file instead of in a separate email after marking has started. An optional question asks what they found hardest, which tells you what to reteach. Every submission ends with a required declaration that the work is their own. Set the form to close at the deadline, and tell students to keep a screenshot of the ending screen as their record of handing in.

Best practices

How to get good answers from an assignment submission

  1. 1

    Close at the deadline

Set the form to close at the deadline, and reopen it for agreed extensions or use a separate late form.

  2. 2

    Ask what was hardest

Reading those answers before marking tells you which topics to revisit with the whole class.

  3. 3

    Use the declaration

A required honesty declaration on every submission sets the expectation without a separate form.

  4. 4

    Suggest PDF

Ask for PDFs where possible, since they open the same on every device.

After you publish

Where the responses go next

  1. Mark from the dashboard

Every submission arrives with its file, class and late reason in one place.

  2. Know when work arrives

Submissions appear on the responses page as they arrive, each with its file, so you can start marking before the deadline.

  3. Track late work

The answer breakdown shows how many submissions were late for each assignment.

FAQ

Assignment Submission: common questions

Still deciding?

Seven steps from an empty account to a published form.

What file types can students upload?

Any file the upload field accepts. The prompt suggests PDF because it opens the same everywhere, but other formats work too.

Do students get proof they submitted?

They see the ending screen on submission. FormSnapp does not email a receipt to students, so tell them to screenshot it if your school needs proof.

How does the late reason work?

Answering that the work is late opens a box for the explanation. On-time submissions never see it.

Can I close submissions at the deadline?

Yes. Set a closing date and time with a message telling late students what to do.

Is there a file size limit?

5 MB per file on the free plan and 10 MB on paid plans.
